I don’t see these guys talked about much, even though they’ve managed to release four or five solid, consistent efforts. It really is a pity, as Sear Bliss has that secret recipe for success. This album is atmospheric goodness; I feel like I’m far away, thrown back into the past, marching on some sort of vast, barren wasteland, leading a charge of cavalry in medieval times. Strange.

On “Glory and Perdition”, Sear Bliss present a style of black metal that appears meaningful and sincere on paper, but when defined through music, the end result is sheer brutality, providing a refreshing contrast, making this record one of a kind. Synthesizers are used, but not abused, popping in at key moments, along with the occasional trombone and trumpet! You might think that those two instruments have no place in black metal, but they are used so subtly in the background, not exactly noticeable unless you’re paying attention. However, you’ll definitely hear them, regardless of whether or not you realize they’re there. In the background, saddening drawls are slowly let out, giving some parts of this album a “melting” feeling, and I love it. Recommended all the way.

Enjoy!
