Sieghetnar are a fairly new addition to the black metal scene, having released this debut in 2006. Verfallen & Verendet is a very different release from the rest of the band's discography, as it is probably the most black metal and the least ambient. In fact, it's really not ambient at all, aside from the occasional interlude and the intro. This is also the only release that features vocals, and they are done quite well. Not too loud and overbearing in the mix, but blending in perfectly with the atmospheric guitar work. It should also be noted that the lyrics are written in some sort of bizarre, secret language, possibly based on Hebrew. Who knows? Only adds to the mysteriousness of the record.

As previously mentioned, the guitars are excellent. Played in such a tone that's not too soft and plush like most ambient black metal, they have a bit more bite to them, really adding a crunch to the music. Throughout the album, we're bombarded with many atmospheric and spacey overtones, giving this release an epic feel at times. Very well done and recommended.
