The debut self-titled release from Shub-Niggurath, this is just as good, if not better than their acclaimed Les Morts Vont Vite. Opening with a rumbling ambient section for a few seconds, then erupting into a chilling combination of shrieking soprano and freezing cold keys, the mood is set for the rest of the album. Yet another bizarre masterpiece depicting the enigmatic and terrifying darkness of hell, Shub-Niggurath really know how to play with your emotions, twisting your perceptions on what is real and what's not. Music this outlandish can have that affect.

The drums really hammer home the style of music and, as an essential facet to this particular genre, are heavy and hard-hitting, often very creepy. And the piano! And the trombonist! So many unique and, frankly, disturbing instruments and effects combine to create the ultimate WTF atmosphere where you feel like you could be killed any minute by some unforeseen force. Really magnificent, and recommended.

Only for the musically enlightened. ;)
