This is monstrous. Perhaps the best release of 2009, right next to Oranssi Pazuzu. Atmospheric Black Metal in the vein of Wolves in the Throne Room, I was completely blown away upon first listen. Ást creates incredible atmosphere and the way it flows is incredibly majestic and entrancing. There are no inconsistencies or stupid little problems on this record, just an ingeniously crafted masterpiece.

The production is phenomenal, and very clear. Every instrument can be heard, especially the drums. No machine here, just real, live drumming performed exceptionally well. Acoustic interludes are thrown in here and there to help break up the monumentally long songs (three are over 10 minutes). One of the more prominent features of this album is how intertwined it is. I wouldn't say the songs blend together, but it's more like a cycle. Different parts of different songs are occasionally called forth into other songs. I always tell my self that a good anything always comes 'round circle, and this album does exactly that. Very beautiful.

10/10
