Beyond Creation - The Aura (2011)

Screw this dump, I'm taking my girlfriend and dog and going to the woods for the next three days. Maybe WFH, José or Shelby will take pity on you and post some stuff, but otherwise you'll just have to get all your stupid pet pictures and misguided fitness advice somewhere else (Cute Overload and Muscular Development would be my suggestions, but I'm sure you'll probably just end up watching internet porn again).

I'll leave you this one last tasty morsel of technical death metal before I go, courtesy of resident miscreant Kawana over at a new blog called Bargain Bin Bottomfeeders. This here band called Beyond Creation swims in the same end of the pool as current Decrepit Birth, Arkaik, and Anomalous, which means you can expect a non-stop barrage of complicated riffery tied together with handbanging grooves, as well as that certain Canadian 'je ne sais quoi' that our pals Cryptopsy lost years and years ago and will never find again. Marred by only the slightest hint of what could be construed as "deathcorism" (i.e. a somewhat generic high/low vocal approach and some bouncy breakdowns here and there), I'm honestly hard pressed to find any real flaws on The Aura. The songs are intricate, varied, and technical without falling into directionless noodling, and all instruments are pulling their weight... particularly their bassist, who is a straight-up fucking beast on that fretless neck and obviously knows it, because he is all over the fucking place with the rubbery low-end. It's sick, and I'm pretty sure that dude is 95% of the reason they get tagged as "progressive."

Anyway. Less talking, more camping. Later, chumps.
