"Covenant" was produced by Morbid Angel and Flemming Rasmussen, engineered by Tom Morris and Flemming Rasmussen at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida and mixed by Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark. The album layout was designed by Martin Nesbitt and the cover photograph was done by Luton Sinfield.
Music videos for "Rapture" and "God of Emptiness" were made.
The album was the first death metal album released on a major label (only in the U.S.). Some original copies have the "Parental Advisory" label on the covers' which were later removed in future releases of the CD.
It was released in Australia by Modern Invasion Music.
It was released in 2006 as a picture-LP by Painkiller Records, limited to 1000 copies.
