Wow! What a great release! As I've probably mentioned numerous times before, I'm generally not a fan of any of this epic or symphonic business, because it's too cheesy, but Apotheosis is something different. Sauron (the band's only member) knows how to create an infinitely expanding atmosphere that would usually be described as "epic", but he also manages to limit the cheese to a minimum, and retain the raw ferocity of blast-beated black metal at its finest.
Many of the songs sound like they were recorded in a single breath, meaning the unrelenting chaos never lets up for even a second - all you get is blindingly fast drumming and sharp, precise riffs pummeling you for upwards of 16 minutes. There are also beautiful interludes here and there, to give the listener a chance to catch his breath. An original album, to say the least.
