This beautiful piece of noise not only represents an updated return to the filthy sound of industrial sludge Justin Broadrick used to delight us with in the 90´s, but also a collaboration with American and British underground music destroyers such as Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, House Of Low Culture, Lotus Eaters), Diarmuid Dalton (Jesu, Final, Godflesh) and Dave Cochrane (Head Of David, God, Ice, Sweet Tooth). I wasn´t expecting nothing less than the top record of 2009, and here it is.

This Cd compiles a set of chamber works composed by Mauricio Kagel and performed by Ensemble L'Art Pour L'Art.


Auftakte is composed in modules that musicians must perform without a conductor, in the order of their preference. In order to coordinate their play they are supposed to use a system of gestural signs to communicate among each other. The results are usually different on each performance. The same system is repeated in Serenade and Phantasiestück, and the music generated can be enjoyed without the visual gestures.


Serenade includes odd execution techniques such as guitar strumming, twittering birdsong and macabre humming. In similar vein, Phantasiestück demonstrates a very rare quality in neo-classical music: a sense of parody and humor, which removes some of the pretentiousness and formality, a common characteristic of this kind of compositions.


Transición II is one of the earliest pieces composed by the Argentinean composer for live electronics. Its score was designed in pages that can be played in any order preferred by the musicians. Piano and percussion are played on top of already recorded parts by the same musicians. Any recollection of the original sound recorded is modified to leave them unrecognizable. Repetition of patterns is not allowed.
